Comm skip not working from XBox Media Extender

    Hi there,

CommSkip isn't working from the XBox 360 extender. How should I troubleshoot? It's the latest version of DVRMSToolbox, and this has worked in the past.

That doesn't cover anything about the extender... ;-) the curious thing is that it is working from at the PC!

Good - that's the first step.  VMC doesn't actually run on the extender, it runs as a user (usually MCX1) on the VMC PC.  Check the log files on the PC for Commercial skip add-in errors.  That's usually a permissions issue.

Make sure you installed for "Everyone".  What is the error message?

Re: Comm skip not working from XBox Media Extender

That's the crazy thing - there's no error message, it just doesn't work. I looked in the Event Log  (application) and ran Process Monitor to see if anything touched or tried to touch the c:\users\public\Dvrmstoolbox\commercialsxml directory while starting up and running the extender (nothing did).

     I did install for "Everyone".

Does the extender have a seperate list of enabled applications in the registry? Is there something I should look for in the DVRMSToolbox logs?

    Cheers

    Richard

you should be able to see what applications are installed for the extender from the settings area in MC.  make sure the addin is listed there.

Re: Comm skip not working from XBox Media Extender

That was it - it had been disabled! I feel like a spanner, but I've found a new piece of the Vista Media Center UI. For the next troubleshooting guide or someone seeing this from a search engine, check the following:

    1. From the Extender (XBox 360 etc.) NOT the console, go to "Tasks", then "Settings", click OK.
    2. Choose "General', click OK.
    3. Choose "Program Library Options" then OK.
    4. Scroll down to the text labelled "Edit Program Library". Click OK.
    5. Check "Media Center Commercial Skip", then choose "Save".
    6. Choose "Save" at the "Program Library Options" screen.
    7. Go to the main menu. From "Tasks" choose "Close".
    8. Restart your Extender session.

Thanks for updating the thread with the solution.
